Limerick City Tidy Towns’ sixth and final bi-monthly award for 2023 has gone to Daly’s Hardware & Electrical, at 50-51 William Street for their store which “ticks far more boxes” than just its Christmas decorations.
Maura O’Neill of Limerick City Tidy Towns explained the Christmas window display is usually a determining factor in choosing its end-of-year winner, but Daly’s have had their window display coupled with its other parts of the building look “great all year round”.
Maura said, “We usually select our November-December winners specifically for their Christmas décor, but Daly’s ticks far more boxes than that. Not only do they have gorgeous Christmas window displays at this time of year, but their signage, lighting and beautifully painted exterior also looks great all year round.
“Loved by locals and visitors to the city alike for the last six decades, we love that this is a family-run business in the heart of Limerick city centre, with a product range and service to rival any of the big DIY chain-stores at retail parks outside the city. They also take great pride in the street and alleyway near the store, undertaking regular clean-ups which is much appreciated by our volunteers who cover that patch.”
Daly’s Hardware was founded in 1957 by Joe Daly, a member of a family steeped in hardware expertise for generations. Since then, the shop has been a steadfast presence on William Street and has become a landmark in the emotional and historical map of Limerick and a cornerstone of community engagement and personalised service. Joe sadly passed away in July of this year but was a constant presence in Daly’s until then.
