When: Friday August 8th at 7pm

Paris, London, Milan, Limerick: The Limerick Strand Hotel will be all style on Friday the 8th of August for an exciting fashion show to raise funds for Corbett Suicide Prevention Patrol and Limerick Marine Search and Rescue.

A ‘popup’ shop of preloved, donated clothes will be held at the event and all of the pieces will be on sale for 20 euro or less. Bargain. Strutting their stuff on the catwalk will be the fabulous models of the Holman Lee Agency to show the attendees what is up for grabs.

The fashion extravaganza is the brainchild of University of Limerick Journalism student, Jennifer Purcell, who wanted to do something to raise suicide awareness in Limerick.

“Everyone in Limerick seems to have been affected by suicide in one way or another. When we hear that helicopter out it gives a shiver down your spine. Those men and women risk their lives every weekend trying to help those in distress. They deserve every bit of help they can get.”

Jennifer said she wanted to organise an event with a twist, something fresh that people could get involved with, a bit different to a regular fundraiser.

“When girls wear dresses on a night out, they’re thrown into the back of the wardrobe afterwards because ‘they can never be seen in the same dress twice’. So why not take all those clothes, that girls will never really wear again and sell them to others for a fraction of the price for a good cause.”

There will also be live music on the night from Rachel Prior, aka Rachy P, who will perform her charity song in aid of CSPP‘Life’s for Living’ as well as other great material. Rachel is a volunteer for CSPP and works the night watch on the bridges preventing people from trying to commit suicide at the river. Rachel tells me, “I became a volunteer with SCPP over a year ago and think the group are very deserving of the proceeds from the sale of “Life’s For Living” as I see first hand It’s a tough job. I wanted to use my talent to raise vital funds for the group and to more importantly raise awareness and prevention.” To find out more and to purchase Rachel’s song you can visit www.rachelprior.com.

Tickets are €5 and available at The Strand Hotel and can also be purchased from Jennifer at www.facebook.com/percyspost
