Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel & Spa proudly announces its recent triumph as the recipient of the Sustainability Champion Award at the prestigious Guaranteed Irish Business Awards, hosted last Thursday at the iconic RDS Concert Hall Dublin. This remarkable achievement marks the culmination of a decades-long journey, showcasing the hotel’s unwavering commitment to sustainability across industries, transcending beyond the realms of tourism.

The Guaranteed Irish Business Awards recognise excellence in sustainability across all sectors, highlighting the enduring nature of the sustainability journey. At Fitzgerald Woodlands House Hotel, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a passion that drives their every endeavour. Owner Mary Fitzgerald commented, “Through meticulous dedication and setting significant milestones, we’ve implemented numerous initiatives in terms of our culture and infrastructure to reduce our environmental footprint and foster a greener future.

Some of our notable sustainability initiatives include the installation of 230kWh of solar panels throughout our resort, harnessing the power of renewable energy to fuel our operations. Additionally, our combined heat and power plant utilises natural gas to provide heat while simultaneously generating electricity, exemplifying our commitment to efficient energy usage. Arising from these initiatives and more, we have successfully achieved a 46% reduction in our energy consumption over the last few years.”

Furthermore, they have established electric vehicle charging points on-site, encouraging eco-friendly transportation options. Their 24-acre farmland, which encompasses Mary’s Organic Garden, reflects our dedication to sustainable agriculture and locally sourced produce. They are also proud to announce that ‘Our Treehouse’, also recently voted Ireland’s Number 1 Outdoor Venue is a Zero Waste Enterprise.

Central to our sustainability efforts is the leadership of Caoimhin Brosnan, their esteemed Sustainability Manager, whose tireless dedication and vision have propelled them forward on this transformative journey. Through his exemplary leadership, coupled with the enthusiastic engagement and participation of the family, team, suppliers and community they have fostered a culture of sustainability that permeates every aspect of our operations and our vision for the future.

Caoimhin commented, “While we celebrate this milestone, we recognise that the journey towards sustainability is ongoing and requires continuous support and expertise. We remain steadfast in our commitment to pushing boundaries, embracing innovation, and collaborating with partners to pave the way for a more sustainable future for all. Our thanks to all who have helped us on our journey to date. The best is yet to come!”
