Give a Gift for Clionas is a new fundraising initiative by Cliona’s Foundation and has been launched by RTÉ presenter and patron of Cliona’s Foundation, Miriam O’Callaghan.

Speaking at the launch, Miriam said, “Christmas, while it is a very special time, can place families under significant financial pressure. This pressure is amplified for families that have a seriously sick child and are struggling to make ends meet.

“Brendan and Terry Ring and all in Cliona’s are doing amazing work for these families, and this fantastic online fundraiser gives people the opportunity to be a part of that, while at the same time securing a great gift. There is something for everyone on offer and I would encourage people to get bidding and make a real difference”.

The initiative is an exclusive way for people to get many unique experiences and items for themselves, family, friends, or colleagues for Christmas while also supporting Cliona’s Christmas campaign to raise funds to support families for seriously sick children.

“It has been a challenging 20 months for everyone, but we are really excited about this unique fundraising initiative and the funds we are hoping it will generate, monies that will make a big impact where needed,” CEO and co-founder of Cliona’s Foundation Brendan Ring said.

Some of the items up for grabs are signed sports jerseys, training sessions with sports personalities, hotel packages, and many more.

“You can even bid to play golf with hurling greats Joe Canning and Shane Dowling in Tralee Golf Course,” Brendan said.

100% of the funds raised from the initiative will go towards Cliona’s Foundation, and all items included in the raffle and auction have been generously donated.

All items available can be found at the link below, and people can choose to either purchase raffle tickets on some items/or place bids on others. The raffle will take place before Christmas and the bidding will close at a similar time, making these items the perfect gifts for Christmas.

“The financial support we provide enables parents to be by their child’s bedside. The hidden costs, which include accommodation, travel, food, car parking, and much more can amount to approx. €10,000 per annum, places a family under significant financial pressure while already trying to deal with their child’s diagnosis,” Brendan explained.

“We travelled that journey for 8 years with our daughter Cliona before she died in 2006, know exactly the financial toll it takes and met many families really struggling with all these expenses.”

Cliona’s Foundation is a unique national charity that provides financial assistance to families of children with a life limiting condition to help with the non-medical expenses of caring for their child while in hospital or at home.

Cliona’s Foundation believes that no family should have to face any added financial stress, when already struggling with the devastation and trauma of a seriously ill child. No other charity in Ireland offers financial support solely for non-medical costs which can amount to significant sums. Cliona’s Foundation relies 100% on income raised through a range of activities including events & fundraising, corporate donations, philanthropy & private donations and partnerships with other charities.
