Revival Press, the poetry imprint of the Limerick Writers’ Centre, has announced the release of of ‘News from Inside’, a debut collection of poems by poet and philosopher Greg Carey. The collection will be launched by acclaimed poet Ron Carey, the brother of Greg.

The collection of poems will be launched at The People’s Museum of Limerick, 2 Pery Sq., Limerick Friday, September 15 at 7.30 pm.

About the collection, Greg said, “Growing up in a time preceding the widespread use of the internet and mobile phones, a standard greeting you might hear on the street was “What’s the news?”.  My book is an imagined response to that question and attempts in its broad sweep across my life to give an insight into how my experiences shaped my inner landscape, as it is from this landscape that my personal ‘news’ is written. The book weaves together a tapestry of early recollections, landscapes that have inspired me and artists who have had a significant effect on my life.”

Ron Carey describes the poems as, “Caring, insightful and brilliant, encompassing everything from Nature to the human condition. Though Greg has a natural contemplative and philosophical outlook, he is a poet first – and a terrific poet at that.  The wonderful poems from “News from Inside” will knock your socks off.”

Greg Carey is a poet and artist originally from Ballynanty in Limerick now residing in Shannon Co. Clare. For many years Greg devoted his time and commitment to running his own company. However, in parallel with these commitments he has augmented his primary degree in English and Philosophy to gain an M.A and PhD in philosophy. Additionally he has also trained and qualified as a psychotherapist.

Throughout the years, Greg’s passion for poetry remained constant, resulting in the publication of his poems in various national journals. His poem in memory of poet John O’Donoghue, which appears in this book, was sent for consideration to the Forward Prize.
