Explored through the dynamic of a mother-daughter relationship, In Two Minds is deeply personal, inventive, funny and life-affirming. As a new work it plays with both the fascinating allure and the challenges of living with bipolar disorder.

‘In Two Minds’ stars Pom Boyd, an award-winning writer and performer who has acted extensively in and written for theatre, film, TV and Radio, currently performing in ‘The Dry’ and Karen McCartney, part of the first group to graduate from the BA in Acting course at The Lir Academy in 2014 and has appeared in ‘A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings’ on its national and international tour.

Limerick playwright, Joanne Ryan explains that when working on her previous show Eggsistentialism, her mother asked her about writing this play.

Ryan said to Miriam O’Callaghan on RTÉ Radio 1, “While I was interviewing her and we were working on that play, she asked me one day if I would consider, when I finished that show, making a show about bipolar disorder. So those were her instructions, and that is what I have done.”

The play explores the delicate dance of mental health, love, and humanity within the confines of shared living space as writer Joanne Ryan and director Sarah Jane Scaife bring a tale of the adult child and parent sharing the same home.  Boyd embodies the role of the mother, while McCartney takes on the character of the daughter.

The creative team also includes Alyson Cummins, Set Designer, Kevin Smith, Lighting Designer, Sinead Cuthbert, Costume Designer, and Rob Moloney, Music and Sound Designer.

In Two Minds comes to the Belltable from 18th -21st October at 8pm (matinee Sat 21st at 2.30pm) and tickets cost €25/€22
