On Wednesday the 11, February, Limerick City and County Council Civic Reception took place in Dooradoyle honouring the achievements of Castletroy Golf Club and the University of Limerick Orchestra.
UL Orchestra were honoured in recognition of their contribution to the musical and cultural life of Limerick since the Orchestra’s establishment in 1992.
Recognition was awarded to Castletroy Golf Club for winning the Muncster nd All Ireland Junior Cup titles in 2014 together with its contribution to the sporting life of Limerick since its foundation in 1937.
“This civic reception is being held in celebration of the achievements of the UL Orchestra and Castletroy Golf Club, which have both represented Limerick with distinction,” said Cllr. Kevin Sheahan, Mayor of Limerick City and County.
UL Orchestra is run by volunteers, the Orchestra provides the facility to students and staff of UL along members of the public to rehears and perform a variety of works to professional standard. UL Orchestra has also grown over the years, preforming twice a year in the in the UCH.
Paying tribute to the University of Limerick orchestra, the Mayor said: “The orchestra is a wonderful home-grown success considering its players are made up of students and staff from the University, Mary Immaculate College, the Limerick Municipal School of Music, other music schools across the region, and members of the wider Limerick community.”
Castle Troy Golf Club has a well-deserved reputation for its charming tree-lined golf course, excellent facilities and traditional Limerick Hospitality. Castletroy was voted as one Ieland’s top 100 golf courses.
“A civic reception is one of the highest accolades at the disposal of Limerick City and County Council for any individual, group or organisation. In the case of the UL Orchestra and Castletroy Golf Club such an honour is throughly deserved,” concluded Mayor Sheahan.
