Limerick culture and arts funding streams open for applications
Limerick City and County Council is inviting members of the creative and artistic community to apply for funding under two separate funding streams.
Applications are now being sought from individual artists or organisations for funding under the Grants Under the Arts Act and Creative Ireland Made in Limerick grants, funded by Creative Ireland.
These are two separate application processes.
Grants Under the Arts Act
Limerick City and County Council offers grant funding to amateur, community or voluntary groups, or organisations, and individual arts practitioners, which in the opinion of the authority, will stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the arts.
In the 2003 Arts Act the arts are defined as painting, sculpture, architecture, music, film, drama, dance, literature, design in industry and the fine arts and applied arts generally. The awards can be used for the professional development of artists, the arts and increasing access and participation in the arts.
All ‘Grants Under the Arts’ applications will be considered by an independent selection panel, appointed by the Culture & Arts Office of Limerick City and County Council. The selection panel will meet to assess and recommendations will then go before a Limerick City and County Council meeting for approval.
The deadline for receipt of applications for the Grants Under the Arts Act Funding 2021 is 4pm on Wednesday 28 April 2021. For more details and how to enter click on Limerick.ie here.

Creative Ireland Made in Limerick
A separate open call is underway for funding being awarded as part of the Limerick Creative Ireland Programme to deliver activities this year.
The Creative Ireland Programme is a five-year government initiative from 2017 to 2022 which places creativity at the centre of public policy. It is a culture-based programme designed to promote individual, community and national wellbeing, to enhance cross-sectoral collaboration and add value to work that is already being undertaken.
The core proposition is that participation in a cultural activity drives personal and collective creativity, with significant implications for individual and societal wellbeing and achievement. The core values of collaboration, communication, community, participation, inclusivity and empowerment that drive the Creative Ireland Programme should be central to the projects proposed for this open call.
The proposals should also address and support the objectives of the Limerick Culture and Creativity Strategy 2018 – 2022.
This year includes a new Strand 4 in the Scheme, Creative Engagement Initiative: Creative and Cultural Activities and Wellbeing, to support professional creatives/ organisations who can develop and facilitate projects that provide a way for those in care/ healthcare settings, attending care centres, community groups, or at home, to learn about and actively connect with programmes that have creativity and creative engagement at their centre.
The deadline for receipt of applications for the Creative Ireland Made in Limerick Grants 2021 is 4pm on Wednesday 21 April 2021. For more details and how to enter click on Limerick.ie here.
Dr Pippa Little, Culture and Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “These two funding streams provide the opportunity for artists, voluntary and professional groups, to develop artistic and creative work, and to work together. As we emerge from the isolation caused by COVID-19, these initiatives support projects for artists and creative engagement for communities.”
“Limerick City and County Council continues to invest in Grants under the Arts Act, with €20,000 allocated to the scheme. Creative Ireland: Made in Limerick, funded by Creative Ireland, is this year an enhanced grant scheme, with a total of €42,000 allocated. This scheme also initiates a new strand, aimed at supporting creative engagement in care and healthcare settings.”
