The two friendlies took place on Wednesday, June 1 at 5:30 pm and saw former Aisling Annacotty player John breeze through his opponents in the 3-0 match.

A second match took place on Sunday, June 4 at 3 pm but unfortunately lost to Iceland with a score of 1-0.

The competitions are the final part of an international window for Republic of Ireland’s U19 coach Tom Mohan before the teams return to competitive matches at the European Championship U19s in Wales this September.

The 24-man squad has been drawn in the Group 4 category against Wales, Hungary and Gibraltar and will determine the seven teams joining the automatically qualified hosts in Slovakia for the 2022 UEFA European Under-19 Championship final tournament.

John is a former St. Kevin’s Boys and Shamrock Rovers player who now plays for UCD in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division. He previously played GAA with Ballybricken and Monaleen clubs.

Playing with Shamrock Rovers for U17 and U19 John is an upcoming player to watch out for, playing the full 90 minutes of the match with unmissable skills.

“Congrats to Limerick footballer John Ryan who has been called up to the FAI Ireland U19 squad for this week’s friendlies against Iceland in Spain!” UCD AFC commented on John’s achievement.
