Share a Dream Foundation, dedicated to making dreams come true for seriously ill children, will reopen its doors this year after four years following the passing of its founder, Shay Kinsella and manager Ciara Brolly in 2020.

Established in 1989 by Shay Kinsella, the foundation has been a bright light for more than 25,000 children and has left an incredible mark on the community.

The Share a Dream Foundation moved heaven and earth to make a dream come true for a child who has a life-limiting illness. Every effort is made to include the immediate family in the child’s dream, helping to make the seemingly impossible become possible.

The decision to reopen Share a Dream Foundation after four years was welcomed by the community with many sharing words of happiness on social media. Shay Kinsella’s son, John Kinsella, has taken on the role, working tirelessly over the past year to revive his late father’s charitable legacy.

At the time of his father’s passing, John said, “I am determined to continue to carry the torch and ensure that his father’s foundation continues with its life-changing work.”

John hopes to continue his father’s mission in making dreams come true, each year Share A Dream Foundation has helped hundreds of families throughout Ireland escape from their everyday lives and just have fun.

The charity has held concerts, organised trips to Disneyland, the National Children of Courage Awards and Dream Ball, family holidays, and help make many individual dreams come true for terminally ill children.

Sadly, despite facing challenges, including burglaries just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dreamland premises on the Dublin Road which opened in 2016 is not planned to reopen.

Dreamland provided a space where children of all abilities could come together and experience fun and play side by side.

Share a Dream Foundation held a heartwarming event just before Christmas when it held a special event welcoming Santa and spreading Christmas joy to children and their families.

The reopening of Share a Dream Foundation not only honours the legacy of Shay Kinsella, a man whom many in the community will admire and share fond memories of, but will embody his enduring commitment to bringing happiness to those who need it most.
