The Midwest Simon Community are encouraging everyone to get into the festive spirit and wear their Christmas Jumper to work, school, or college to spread some festive cheer and to help support Midwest Simon Community this December. To get involved, all you have to do is pick a date in December to wear your Christmas jumper to fundraise and then sign up with Midwest Simon. You will then receive a fundraising pack and be ready to spread Christmas cheer in the name of charity.

Midwest Simon Community helps those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or suffering food poverty in Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary. Last year, the organisation provided emergency accommodation for over 466 people in Limerick and Clare through our housing support services.

It offers tenancy sustainment services to 79 families and individuals in Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary, who now have homes in Midwest Simon Community properties. MWSC’s mission is to ensure that they can support clients to move from ‘surviving to thriving’ and to no longer having to live with the stigma of being homeless.

Midwest Simon also operates Foodbanks in Limerick, Clare and a community Foodbank in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. In 2021 a total of 10,713 people accessed the Foodbanks of which 4,731 were children. There are approximately 300 people in Limerick suffering from homelessness amid the current housing crisis. The Midwest Simon Community help through counselling, crisis care, and outreach, education/special education services, tutoring, family support, independent living support, and support groups.

Volunteers and fundraisers are fundamental to the charity to allow the Midwest Simon Community to continue carrying out the essential work they do. This is why everyone of all ages is being encouraged to take part in the 2022 Christmas Jumper fundraiser. Hurling star Diarmaid Byrne and rugby player Craig Casey are ambassadors for the Midwest Simon Community and are showing their support this Christmas. Diarmaid said, “It is my pleasure to come on board with Midwest Simon as an ambassador. I want to help to create more awareness around the serious issue of homelessness across Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary. I have seen first-hand the great work that the staff and volunteers at Midwest Simon undertake each day. They do much more than just providing a roof over people’s heads. I’m looking forward to playing a part to help to support those who are most vulnerable in our community.”
