Munster Vs Leinster for Bothar 2011
International Development Agency, Bothar, along with rugby fans, will attempt to break a world record at ‘Munster vs Leinster’ in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Friday 4th November 2011 at 8pm.
Bothar and Limerick are deeply linked as the organisation has its origins here back in 1989 before going national. It began as an enterprise to send as many dairy cows to Africa as possible in 1991 as part of the celebrations to mark the three hundred years of the Treaty of Limerick. After its initial success it became apparent this idea had a much greater potential and a new development agency was born.
These days Bothar does much more then send livestock to Africa. Bothar works within communities in 35 countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and South America. They pride themselves with supplying people with the means to develop a sustainable future for themselves and their wider community. They way they work is fascinating, communities in the Bothar scheme must form a committee to decide which families in their community are most in need and decide who should receive animals first. They then ensure that families are trained in the care of their animals as they must grow crops and build shelter and facilities for the animal before receiving it. Each family then passes on the gift to the next family in the community by giving them the offspring of their animal and so on.
Last year, Bothar supporters set a new world record for the ‘most number of people to wear a Santa hat, in one place at one time’ at 8,322. This year the challenge is to exceed that number! Munster and Leinster fans will be asked to put their renowned sporting differences to one side for one minute before kick-off to wear the special red and blue Bóthar Santa hats and to break the world record.
David Moloney, Chief Executive of Bothar said:
“Our sights are set on breaking the world record of 8,322 and I am calling on Leinster and Munster fans to stand shoulder to shoulder with us in the Aviva stadium proudly wearing their Blue and Red Santa hats.”
Please purchase a special Bothar ‘Santa Hat’ as you approach the Aviva Stadium and show your support for Bothar. Your donation of €2 or more will be used to help struggling families in 35 countries worldwide. To support this Santa hat challenge, call Bothar on 1850 82 99 99 or visit www.bothar.org
