O Mahonys Booksellers is the oldest retail business of its type in the Mid-West region
Limerick City Tidy Towns’ fourth bi-monthly award for 2023 has gone to O Mahonys Booksellers at 120 O’Connell Street.
Maura says, “Its so nice to see O Mahonys Booksellers win a tidy town award. Throughout many changes to our city centre over the past 120 years, not least the extensive redevelopment that has recently been completed on O’Connell Street, O’Mahony’s Booksellers, one of Limerick’s best known and most beloved businesses has continued to thrive and consistently maintains a beautifully presented exterior with diverse, imaginative window displays and attractive flowerbeds at the entrance. It is a great asset to our city centre, and we are delighted to present our latest bi-monthly award to them”.
Founded in 1902 by JP O’Mahony, Grandfather of the current owner Frank, O’Mahony’s Booksellers continues to trade from the same location and is the oldest retail business of its type in the Mid-West region. A family business, with customer service at the heart of all they do, O’Mahony’s staff are renowned for their friendliness and wealth of bookselling knowledge and are a huge part of the success of the company. O’Mahony’s are one of the largest independent book-sellers in the country and pride themselves on the wide selection and diversity of their stock over all book categories, local, national, international, educational and academic, as well as cards, gifts, boardgames, soft toys, jigsaw puzzles and stationery.
O’Mahony’s Booksellers is Limerick City Tidy Town’s fourth winner of 2023, since they switched to bi-monthly awards this year, and will be in with a chance to be their Overall Winner for 2023 at next year’s annual event, along with the January-February winner Dolans, March-April winner Rift Café and May-June winner The Flower Studio If you wish to nominate a business in the city for an award or indeed to volunteer with Limerick City Tidy Towns, they meet every Sunday morning at 11 am at the corner of Thomas Street and O’Connell Street, and on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm outside the White House during summer months.
