Limerick O’ Shaughnessy family launch GoFundMe following house fire

A fundraiser has been set up to support the O’ Shaughnessy family from Ballyhahill, whose family home was engulfed in flames following a lightning strike during Storm Franklin last weekend.
Margaret and Tony O’ Shaughnessy were in their family home on Sunday night when they smelled smoke coming from the upstairs area. In no time at all, smoke started to fill the house as a blaze consumed the roof and attic.
Due to the raging Storm Franklin, fire services from Newcastle West, Foynes and Rathkeale were unable to save the house. Gale-force winds and terrible weather conditions made their efforts to control the blaze extremely difficult.
Margaret, Tony and their two young children escape the blaze uninjured, but were forced to watch their family home burn to the ground, left with just the clothes on their backs. Their two other sons were not home at the time, as they were away at their respective colleges in Limerick and Cork.
