They have recorded a 30% increase in the number of young men seeking therapy compared to 2021. Last year over 1500 people under the age of 18 sought support related to suicide, self-harm and bereavement.

Pieta House has been operating since 2006 establishing help centres and providing free therapeutic services nationwide. The charity has previously run the successful fund-raising event ‘Darkness into Light’ in Limerick raising over €25,000 euros this year.

The charity is holding a Pieta House recruitment drive for four new therapists that are available to work variable hours and bring variety to the service. Experience working with children and adolescents is required to apply. As part of their SIGNS of suicide campaign, the group is reaching out to show people how to recognise and act on the signs of suicide when noticed in a friend or family member. Pieta House urges you to follow their APR approach if you believe someone is considering suicide. APR is ask, persuade them to seek help and refer them to Pieta or a local mental health service.

This growing demand has led to plans by Pieta to increase their clinical staff in Limerick though a Pieta House recruitment drive. There are also opportunities for child and adolescent therapists to provide help with crisis prevention in the Limerick area.

Nora Conway Pietas Midwest Clinical Manager urges the public, “to take care of their mental health and reach out to their loved ones. Here at Pieta, we envision a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma can be replaced with hope, self-care and acceptance.”
