Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI) is a specialist information and resource centre on rape and all forms of sexual violence with a proven capacity in strategic leadership. The RCNI role includes the development and coordination of national projects including expert data collection, supporting Rape Crisis Centres to reach best practice standards, using our expertise to influence national policy and social change. We are the representative, umbrella body for our member Rape Crisis Centres who provide free advice, counselling and support for survivors of sexual abuse in Ireland.

In 2014 Rape Crisis Midwest was at risk of closure due to cuts to the statutory funding it received. Staff took a month’s unpaid leave for a second year to attempt to address the deficit. Rape Crisis Midwest asked the public for their help as the cumulative effect of six years of cuts to its funding left the organisation in an extremely difficult position. The response was twofold – the generosity of the public, which continues, has enabled them to continue to deliver our services throughout the Midwest, and also great awareness of the service was generated across the three counties they serve.
