Rathkeale House Hotel offers Free Wedding for a Frontline Worker

Limerick’s Rathkeale House Hotel is offering a free wedding to a frontline worker as a way of giving back. They are aware of the sacrifices front-line workers have made during the pandemic and they are doing the competition in order to recognise those sacrifices and to say thank you. Ann Madigan, General Manager says she hopes the competition will be a “pick-me-up” for everyone.

The wedding is valued at €6,000 and caters to 25 people. It includes a drink reception, canapes, a meal, and champagne.  Loved ones can be nominated for the competition by family and friends or they can enter themselves. The public will vote for a winner. Stephen O’Flaherty, Assistant Manager says, “This is all about giving back to the community. These front-line workers are putting their lives on the line every day. Just imagine how bad things would be without them?”

Ann and Stephen came up with the idea of the competition as they have relatives working to fight the pandemic. Ann’s daughter Eimear has worked for 25 years in intensive care, while Stephen’s brother works in the care staff at the University Hospital Limerick, so they are both very much aware of the hard work being put in by front-line workers to keep the country going during this difficult time.

Ann tells the Limerick Leader, “Frontline workers have done an amazing job during the pandemic. You just see people getting up in the morning and just getting on with it. People we love, members of our family are putting themselves out there, putting their lives at risk. They have to – it’s what they do, it’s their chosen career. Covid-19 has just thrown itself in front of them, and they just have to get up and get on with it. It’s frightening.”

The Rathkeale House Hotel reopened last February after undergoing a €1.2 million refurbishment but then, unfortunately, had to close to the general public due to the pandemic. They are now only open for front-line workers for essential reasons such as those who need a place to self-isolate.
