Community Substance Misuse Team (CASP CSMT) provides a free service to under 18’s and their families who are affected by substance misuse in the Mid- West region –  Limerick City, Limerick County, North Tipperary and Clare. Their aim is the provision of supports and related educational and practical interventions to support and facilitate a range of on-going services, targeted at supporting the parents, family members, partners and young people living with impact of substance misuse. It is important to remember that for most young people substance misuse is not a part of normal life and that most people who do try drugs do not continue using them and adolescence is period of risk taking.

Research shows that where young people do develop a problem with drugs and alcohol, the involvement and support of parents and families can make a big difference to the person’s health and their ability to deal with their drug habit. The team believes in working with young people and their caregivers to develop a long term sustainable supported environment. They have had over 200 referrals for this period working with young people and family members to lessen the impact of substance misuse.

They are a confidential service and will respond to the needs of those presenting in as timely a manner as possible. They recently launched their annual report for 2013 which can be found on their website, www.csmt.ie. If you would like any further information, please contact the service on 061-317688.
