A Brooklyn Colbert fundraiser walk has been organised by the family of the murdered 11-year-old in support of NorthStar Support Project.

11-year-old Brooklyn was tragically murdered in November 2019 and since then his family have worked hard to honour him.

Brooklyn grew up with a passion for sport, particularly soccer and boxing and would regularly go on walks with his mother and participate in several Great Limerick Runs together.

Since Brooklyn’s tragic death, the family have organised annual runs in his memory where proceeds are donated to charities of their choice.

The annual run the family of Brooklyn participated in was 11 km each time, to represent all 11 years of Brooklyn’s life.

In previous years Sonia raised €3,000 for NOVAS in 2020 and hopes to do the same this year for NorthStar.

However, this year, Brooklyn’s mother Sonia Aylmer is honouring her son differently by walking the three bridges route in Limerick on Saturday at 11:11 a.m.

The three bridges route is a route that Brooklyn and Sonia took every day from their home, and it will be a difficult route to take again but Sonia will be surrounded by friends and family to remember Brooklyn.

Proceeds for the walk will go towards the NorthStar Family Support Project, a family support project that works with families in the Limerick region to help deal with the impact of substance misuse by offering a suite of interventions.

NorthStar works towards listening and not judging those involved with the project while empowering and promoting confidence.

Sonia has been working closely with NorthStar Family Project as a volunteer, so donating to that project is something close to her heart.

“Brooklyn loved to help people and this year I’m raising money to benefit NorthStar Family Support Project as they assist a lot of families in the community.” The Fundraiser page says.

“I know this would make Brooklyn very proud. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause.”

The walk takes place on Saturday April 31, 2022.
