22-year-old Limerick based singer-songwriter and producer Chris Ward is set to release his EP ‘Violet’ this summer, including his latest single ‘Colder’.
Chris is no stranger to the Limerick music scene, having begun busking sessions on O’Connell Street at just 16. Since then, he has played countless gigs and supported the likes of Declan O’Rourke, James Orr and Dora Gola among others.
At the young age of 18, Chris decided to take his career to the next step and began writing what would become his first full musical project.
Chris went on to work with notable producer, Christian Best across 9 studio sessions. He worked with some of Ireland’s most talented musicians, including Martin Atkinson Borrull on keys, Kealan Kenny on lead guitar and Fionn O’Neill on bass.
Chris had to sit and wait with his new EP, as the COVID 19 pandemic hit just as the tracks were finalised.
“I wanted the moment to be just right when I started releasing this music, so I decided to bide my time and be patient,” he said.
Chris released his first single ‘Lost Tonight’, last June to great acclaim. His brand new single ‘Colder’ showcases the diversity of his songwriting.
“Colder was written when I was in a very dark place,” the musician commented. “It unapologetically describes the slow degradation of a once loving relationship. The stupid little arguments, the eye rolls, and an unshakable feeling that the person beside you isn’t the person you fell in love with.
“The heavily distorted guitars, deep bassline and soaring passionate vocals perfectly encapsulate the feelings of loss, and give the listener insight into a difficult situation.”
