Con Quigley appointed as Chair of EVA International

EVA International is pleased to announce the appointment of Con Quigley as Chair of the Board of Directors. Con joined the Board of Directors of EVA International in 2012 working on areas of sponsorship, citizen engagement and general governance. As a partner in corporate finance and strategy with BDO Corporate Finance, Con has over 25 years’ professional experience across a range of commercial activities, including property investment, entertainment and arts, technology and media.

Of his appointment as Chair, Con says: ‘I am very proud to take up the position of Chair of EVA International at a crucial time in its history. Founded in 1977 by Limerick-based artists, EVA has grown enormously over the years to become a truly ambitious international project, working with artists and curators from all over the world. In the context of a pandemic that has introduced many new challenges for arts organisations, I look forward to working with others on EVA’s dedicated Board of Directors in supporting CEO Matt Packer and the EVA team in the further growth of EVA’s ambitions at this significant juncture for the arts in Ireland. I would also like to thank outgoing Chair Mike Fitzpatrick for his many years of dedication to EVA International. We will continue to benefit from Mike’s experience and leadership for many years to come.’

EVA International is Ireland’s biennial of contemporary art. EVA leads in the commissioning and curating of contemporary art by Irish and international artists, culminating in a programme of artistic encounters, exhibitions, and education projects, that typically takes place every two years across venues in Limerick city. EVA’s vision is ‘To lead in creating experiences and encounters of world-class contemporary art that activate Limerick as a place of creative endeavour and cultural destination’. Following the success of Phase 1 of the 39th EVA International in Autumn 2020, Phases 2 and 3 of the 39th EVA International will take place across venues in 2021, with dates soon to be announced.

EVA was founded by artists in 1977 and it remains one of the longest running visual arts organisations in Ireland, with a history of working with some of the world’s most influential curators, including Inti Guerrero (2018), Koyo Kouoh (2016), Bassam El Baroni (2014), Annie Fletcher (2012, Jan Hoet (1994), Germano Celant (1991), Saskia Bos (1990), Rudi Fuchs (1985) and  Barrie Cooke, John Kelly, Brian King (1977).
