GAFF Summer Camp 2016
GAFF Summer Camp
Dance, music and story are at the heart of a short and explorative GAFF Summer Camp being run by The GAFF and Garryowen CDP this July to welcome teenagers from diverse cultural backgrounds to CONNECT. This unique summer camp offers participants a chance to engage socially through creative skills.

GAFF Summer Camp – John Lillis working with children on his decks.
CONNECT invites 12 – 15 year olds to the Dance Limerick studio, John’s Square, where they will engage with dance artist Laura Murphy and music producer John Lillis. These experienced artists will lead a programme of activity to include movement and choreography, music and games. Laura’s website, shows her work as a mainstream and also as a community based artist. She has worked extensively in collaboration with young people both in Ireland and in the UK. Music Producer, John Lillis, best known nowadays as one third of the Rusangano Family, has initiated and delivered music programmes for young people in the Mid-West for many years in school and community settings. CONNECT will be led by these well established artists and participants in will be encouraged to add their own individual voices, ideas and skills to the programme. Both Laura and John aim to merge their experiences with the teenagers to find new ways of creating and exploring art together.
A guest visit to CONNECT will be made by Brian Mooney, a respected US based educator whose philosophy around the use of music in the classroom has become legendary, to the point that Kendrick Lamar, probably the most positive and inclusive rapper in the world just now, paid a visit to one of his classes.
CONNECT is a great opportunity to learn and discover art through music and dance, to share stories and experiences, to play and to participate! No experience is necessary just an open creative mind!
CONNECT is produced by The GAFF with support from the JPMcManus Belevolent fund and takes place over a four day Summer Camp in John’s Square in Limerick, running on July 25, 26, 27 and 28, from 11am until 3pm daily and includes lunch. The last day of the camp will welcome parents and friends to share in a celebration of the week in a street party event, John’s Square.
