Hurleys at High Noon as Mayors meet ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland Clash
Following a spirited exchange of letters, the first citizens of Limerick and Cork met today on the border of both counties to raise their hurleys for a friendly one-to-one following a challenge by the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Daniel Butler who is confident the Liam MacCarthy Cup will be staying put Shannonside, said: “It’s wonderful to see that we can all come together in the true spirit of sport to celebrate the game of hurling, while still be fervent supporters of our county teams.”
“Limerick people at home and abroad have been supporting this Limerick hurling team for many years and they are truly witnessing a golden era of Limerick hurling. The Greening of Limerick has seen buildings, home and even castles going green to show their support for the team.”
“All of Limerick is behind you. We are united with you and in your desire to be the best.”
“Win, lose or draw we are very proud of you as a team who embodies what Limerick has become, a county and city of ambition, skill and hard work!”
“The teams’ drive, commitment, grace under pressure and self-belief has made them one of the greatest hurling teams, who we are all confident will win out on Sunday.”
“Luimneach Abú!”
