Volunteer Day at ADAPT House

National Volunteering Week took place this year from May 13- 19.    Building on the success of last year, National Volunteering Week is an opportunity to shine a light on the inspiring work of volunteers and highlight the value and impact of volunteering to Irish society. This is the one week of the year when everyone in Ireland is encouraged to give volunteering a try and see that volunteering can make a big difference and be a lot of fun!  As part of National Volunteer Week, Limerick Volunteer Centre organised a volunteer team to participate in an Outdoor Painting Project in Adapt Domestic Abuse Services, Rosbrien on Thursday May 16 from 9.30 – 3pm.  ADAPT operates the country’s largest refuge facility which provides emergency accommodation for women and children who have to leave their homes due to domestic abuse.  They also provide a wide range of services such as one-to-one support, group support, outreach support, court accompaniment, advocacy and child and youth services. The play area / garden for the children who live in the refuge is in much need of paint work and Limerick Volunteer Centre  recruited more than 20 volunteers to help with the project.  It was a great opportunity to volunteer and do something good in our community.   ADAPT Domestic Violence Services offer an invaluable range of supports to vulnerable women and children in Limerick. For more info on ADAPT go to www.adaptservices.ie

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
